Under the guise of liberating sons, daughters and wives from the family father being the only member of the family capable of interacting with the State and empowering their individuality you have decreased the importance of the role family plays in a person’s life. Now they are a citizen of the State first and a member of their family second.
Then with your loyal supporters that I placed in Congress for you that made up a majority and would agree with all your decisions, and the judges you quietly appointed in the courts, you waived the law restricting your rule to two terms. You avoided causing public outrage by making it clear you could only remain in office so long as you were voted there by the public, but your next move would provide the solution to any eventuality of not being reinstated.
Finally, you outlawed big social media sites and created State run equivalents. Citizens believe this is because of the abuse of their data stored on these sites, which is sold to the highest bidder. In reality this makes the population more reliant on the State and strengthens its power. The fact is this new sites won’t share user data with any third party, this data is for the State and the State alone. Through State sanctioned social media you became the first entity to possess the data of an entire citizenry in one place. This allowed your associates to have a firmer grip on what the entire population consumed and saw on the internet, each member of society getting their own personalised feed to instil in them complete support in the government and the benefits of what it was accomplishing, while also planting seeds of fear and doubt to life under any rule but your own.
