I alone can exercise the justice all men love and rightly prize.
But what is the use of intellect, goodness of heart, the instinct to protect when immorality stalks through the land, and mischief hatches mischief on every hand? They rustle cattle, steal each other’s wives. They even lay hands on State property, and they get off without a scratch scot-free, to boast of it the rest of their vile lives. Meanwhile the courts are crammed to suffocation with new, unnecessary litigation, and outside there is public agitation. Any accused that has a friend at court will be acquitted of the worst offence. But “Guilty!” is the immediate retort where innocence undertakes its own defence. The honest man may, for a time, fight the corruption, but, at last, he yields: the judge who’s powerless to punish crime is much worse than the criminal he shields. A court in which no one can trust, is no place to go seeking justice. I paint things black, but would have been glad not to have described the scene. Strong measures must be put in hand before the situation’s out of hand. I must authorise reform. Where all men both inflict and suffer harm. Less than a decade under my leadership will not bring stability to the nation so with your support I will be abolishing the law which stops me from running for the presidency indefinitely, as long as you deem me fit to lead I will continue to oversee.
